The Palace was built as a vaudeville house in 1916 and closed in 1984. After a $15 million renovation it reopened on March 10, 2017, with Atmosphere on the bill.
The city of St. Paul owns it; First Avenue and JAM Productions run it. The renovation deliberately left the worn, historic bones visible instead of polishing them away.
