The Dakota started in 1985 at Bandana Square in St. Paul and moved to Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis in 2003. Founder Lowell Pickett still co-owns it.
It's a seated supper club, so plan on dinner or at least a drink. The bookings lean jazz, soul and singer-songwriters, often national names in a room far smaller than they usually play. The Dakota has since added a second space, the Quinlan Room, in the nearby Young-Quinlan building.
