The Turf opened in 1945 as a dance hall on University Avenue near Snelling. It became a rock club much later, and First Avenue bought it in late 2013.
Downstairs is the Clown Lounge, a basement bar with its own small stage. One bit of trivia: Japanese punk band Shonen Knife played its 1,000th show here.
